Fishing on your Own
West Virginia fishing is a right of passage in this state. With over 20,000 miles of streams and rivers, mountain lakes and public lakes, given the remote wilderness areas, mountain topography and limited access, you could spend a lifetime fishing and never fish the same spot twice! The state spends large amounts of money to stock these waters, keeping them clean and safe. So if you love to fish, West Virginia is a great place for it. Just make sure you have a state fishing license.
- You can fish one of the many private lakes at NARR for free, without a license, but remember it is catch and release only.
You can learn more about area fishing and how to obtain your state fishing license at the West Virginia DNR website
